Location: Congressional Districts 1 & 2, Long Island
Grossman Solutions, working with Healthcare Education Project, is hiring Campaign Canvassers to talk with voters in an outreach campaign against the proposed federal cuts to medicaid in New York’s 1st and 2nd Congressional Districts. This is in the western part of Suffolk County on Long Island.
The ideal candidate is outgoing, engaging, driven and wants to make a difference in their community. If you are a people-person and you love a fast-paced environment, then this job is for you.
We are hiring Canvassers at the rate of $25 per hour. Full-time canvassers completing 40 hours a week will also receive a $125/week health stipend (=$28/hr approx equivalent).
All canvassers must commit to at least six 4-hour shifts per week.
This position is ideal for someone with prior canvass, sales, or community outreach experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Successfully complete required training
- Use scripts to communicate with members of the community
- Talk with voters through door-to-door canvassing, phone calls and texting to talk with people about politics and encouraging them to contact their Congressional representative about proposed cuts to Medicaid
- Accurately enter data collected from voters into database on a mobile device/tablet
- Participate in phone banking to follow up with voters about your conversations with them
- Carefully complete daily reports
- Represent the campaign with the highest degree of professionalism and ethical conduct
- Participate in ongoing training sessions and team meetings
Qualifications
- Experience working with the public such as customer service, restaurants, sales, brand ambassador, community outreach, or social service
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time while canvassing door-to-door
- Ability to transport and carry materials and equipment (10-15 lbs)
- Previous canvass experience is helpful, but not required as training will be provided to all employees
- Ability to follow script and meet daily goals
- Interest in politics
- Ability to connect with diverse communities and move people to action
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
- Proven ability to be flexible and work in a fast-moving environment
- Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
- Must be able to use a smartphone/ tablet and learn how to use a database app
- Must have access to reliable transportation
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
Location
Canvassers will work in the field and be based out of our coalition partner’s office in Hicksville, NY. Canvassers will be required to travel throughout Western Suffolk County.
