Political Canvasser - Battleground New York
Grossman Solutions, working with Battleground NY, is hiring Campaign Canvassers to talk with voters in an outreach campaign in support of the Democratic House candidates in New York’s 4th, 17th, 19th and 22nd Congressional Districts. In your application, please note which district you would like to apply for. Offices are located at: Syracuse, Binghamton, Coxsackie, White Plains, Nyack, and Nassau.

We are hiring Canvassers at the rate of $25 per hour. Full-time canvassers also receive a $125/week health stipend (=$28/hr approx equivalent). We are also promoting some exceptional canvassers to Team Leaders for an additional $2/hr. The canvass will run through November 5, 2024. Full-time canvassers who drive team members into the field each day will receive an additional $50 per pay period.
All canvassers must commit to at least three 4-hour shifts per week. Canvassers are eligible for overtime pay for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
This position is ideal for someone with prior canvass, sales, or community outreach experience.

In 2024, New York will be a central battleground in the effort to win back the U.S. House of Representatives. Battleground New York, a new coalition of New York’s leading organizations, unions, and movements, representing hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life, has come together to flip the House and take back the majority.
Battleground New York, led by the Working Families Party, Planned Parenthood Empire States Acts, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Communications Workers of the America District 1, Indivisible, and other organizations, will be the largest field and organizing campaign in modern New York history.
Job Responsibilities
- Successfully complete required training
- Talk with voters through door-to-door canvassing, phone calls and texting to talk with people about politics and encourage voting for the Democratic candidate
- Accurately enter data collected from voters into database on a mobile device/tablet
- Write follow up postcards to voters about your conversations with them
- Carefully complete daily reports
- Represent the campaign with the highest degree of professionalism and ethical conduct
- Participate in ongoing training sessions and team meetings
Qualifications
- Experience working with the public such as customer service, restaurants, sales, brand ambassador, community outreach, or social service
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time while canvassing door-to-door
- Ability to transport and carry materials and equipment (10-15 lbs)
- Previous canvass experience is helpful, but not required as training will be provided to all employees
- Ability to follow script and meet daily goals
- Interest in politics
- Ability to connect with diverse communities and move people to action
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
- Proven ability to be flexible and work in a fast-moving environment
- Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
- Must be able to use a smartphone/ tablet and learn how to use a database app
- Must have access to reliable transportation
- Canvassers will be subject to a background check
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
Location
Canvassers will work in the field and be based out of our field office in each respective Congressional District. Canvassers will be required to travel throughout their assigned region.
