Connecticut Grassroots Vaccination Campaign - Canvasser

Grossman Solutions in partnership with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, is hiring Canvassers to help Connecticut residents receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The paid canvass is part of a larger grassroots outreach campaign to schedule Connecticut residents for COVID-19 vaccination appointments and educate them on the vaccine. The campaign will prioritize majority African American and Latino neighborhoods to ensure an equitable vaccination rollout.  

The ideal candidate is outgoing, engaging, driven and wants to make a difference in their community by increasing the number of Connecticut residents who receive the vaccine, and improving health outcomes for communities of color. 

Canvassers will be assigned to a specific region of the state and report to the region’s Canvass Supervisor. Canvassers will work in major Connecticut cities including Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford, Hartford, Waterbury, Norwalk, Danbury, New Britain, Bristol, and Meriden. 

This is a part-time to full-time position that is envisioned to last until October 31. We are hiring on a rolling basis. Pay is $23/hour and canvassers will receive mileage stipends. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Effectively engage residents through door-to-door canvassing conversations to schedule eligible residents for a COVID-19 vaccination appointment and inform them on the importance of the vaccine. Depending on weather, conversations may take place over phone
  • Work with the Canvass Supervisor to ensure that canvass goals are met 
  • Use technology tools to ensure accurate and timely data entry
  • Make adjustments to canvass tactics as instructed by canvass leadership
  • Complete daily and weekly reports on progress to goal for all metrics 
  • Represent the campaign with professionalism and ethical conduct
  • Successfully complete required training on the COVID-19 vaccine, scheduling system, COVID-19 safety, and canvass database


  • Experience working in a public-facing capacity, such as customer service, sales, brand ambassador, community outreach, or social service
  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or historically marginalized communities. Demonstrated ability to connect with diverse communities and move people to action
  • Ability to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
  • Previous canvass experience is helpful, but not required as training and coaching will be provided to all employees
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Demonstrated success in metrics driven jobs
  • Proven ability to be flexible and work in a fast-moving environment
  • Must be able to use a computer and learn how to use a software database
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Canvassers will be subject to a background check  
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
  • Proof of vaccination is required* 


Canvassers will work in the field and be based out of our field offices. Canvassers will be required to travel throughout their assigned region.
