Position Overview 


SEIU Local 105 is seeking an experienced union leader to serve as the External Healthcare Organizing Director. 

The Director will lead organizing campaign efforts to grow our union and build power for working people. As a member of our senior leadership team, the Director will oversee all external healthcare organizing campaigns and coordinate the efforts between statewide organizing campaigns, politics, and worker empowerment.

The Director will supervise all external healthcare organizing projects, including organizing drives, union elections, leader recruitment, training and development, leadership structures and worker-empowerment on a statewide level. 

The Director will also work to transform Local 105 into a Union prepared to address the unique challenges facing working families in America.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and oversee external organizing campaigns to grow union membership and advocate for workers
  • Develop political and community support for organizing campaigns
  • Serve as part of the senior leadership team, collaborating with colleagues on overall union priorities and goals
  • Set campaign priorities for organizers and align the work of the team with the union’s overall goals
  • Drive the coordination between statewide organizing campaigns, politics, and worker empowerment
  • Create and oversee plans to conduct outreach to workers, identify and recruit workplace leaders and workers to the union, and win recognition from employers
  • Act as internal agent of change, consistently challenging supervisors, leaders, and staff to think differently about their work
  • Represent SEIU Local 105 with a variety of external stakeholders
  • Oversee the hiring, promoting, and evaluation of staff
  • Develop, coach and support staff 
  • Help Local 105 integrate Organizational Equity and Inclusion at all levels of member and staff engagement
  • Contribute to overall development of the internal organizing program in collaboration with the Internal Healthcare Organizing Director

Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to workers, union power and member leadership anchored in a strong belief of fighting for economic and racial justice
  • At least 8 years of related union organizing experience, including developing and successfully winning organizing campaigns at a managerial level
  • Ability to design, direct and execute strategic organizing campaigns
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to hire, supervise, inspire and develop a diverse staff at all levels
  • Superb interpersonal skills, with a history of forging strong relationships with multiple stakeholders and ability to work in a diverse workplace
  • Ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts, voice differing viewpoints and opinions and build consensus
  • Excellent judgment while working under extreme pressure
  • Ability and willingness to work long and irregular hours and travel frequently in the state 
  • Driver's license and reliable car

Location, Salary and Benefits

This position is based in the Denver metro area.

The annual salary range for this position is $87,215 to $100,915.

  • Monthly car allowance of $485

Working Conditions/Environment

Office and field work involving travel to areas represented throughout the state and in a variety of environmental situations.  The workweek is Monday through Friday plus weekend work when specifically assigned.  The workday may begin before and extend beyond normal office hours depending on the demands of the assignment.
